Life Science 11 (formerly Biology 11)

Prerequisite: Science 10

This survey course looks at the organic forms from the simplest (viruses) to the most complex (vertebrate animals). This course is appropriate for students requiring a grade 11 credit or wishing to pursue a Biological or Health Science related post-secondary program.

Topics: Animals (invertebrates & vertebrates), microbiology (viruses & bacteria), ecology, plants, evolution, and scientific method.

Big Ideas:

  • Life is a result of interactions at the molecular and cellular levels.
  • Evolution occurs at the population level.
  • Organisms are grouped based on common characteristics.

Assessment: Assignments, dissections, microscope work, projects, laboratory investigations, formative and summative assessments.
