Math: Geometry 12

Credits: 4

A minimum of “C+” in Foundations of Math and Pre-Calculus 10 is recommended.

Equipment:  Scientific calculator, such as the Sharp EL – 510R.

Geometry 12 is considered an academic course for university admission.  Students will explore geometric constructions using nothing but a compass, a pencil, and a straight edge, as well as circle geometry and transformations of 2D shapes.  We will also explore the use of Geogebra software in building geometric constructions.

Geometry is fundamental to animation, architecture, biology, carpentry, chemistry, medical imaging, and art, yet it is barely touched on in the other mathematics courses.  The study of geometry is invaluable in developing both your creative thinking and logical reasoning – plus, it’s fun!

Geometry 12 is an excellent choice for students who are interested in writing Math Contests, as well as students who finish the PreCalculus stream early (through AMP) and want to keep their math skills sharp.
