Students will have the option to write an AP English exam to earn credit for first year university English.
*Mastery of English 11 outcomes. As this is a course intensive in reading/writing, students should demonstrate a love for the English language and a willingness to commit to quality work.

Writing Focus:
- Learning ways to demonstrate manipulation of language and to incorporate literary devices in writing
- Personal and narrative essays; synthesis essays
- Persuasive argument essay based on research, including works cited page in MLA format
- Analytical writing done in response to literature
- Creative writing pieces
Reading Focus:
- Short stories, poetry, essays, Hamlet
- Selections from Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex, Camus’ The Outsider, Wagener’s Indian Horse, Boyden’s Three Day Road, Turgenev’s Fathers and Sons, and possible others
- Text annotation and close reading skills
- Exam prep
Oral Focus:
- Class discussions to develop comprehension and analytical skills
- 30-minute oral seminar presentation on multi-media literacy with focus on powers of persuasion
