Required Pre‐requisite: 86% in English 11 (if less than 86% mark, students will have to take an English Assessment test administered by Oak Bay/Camosun)
Description: This exciting course is a partnership between Oak Bay Secondary (SD #61) and Camosun College. The purpose of this course is for students to gain post-secondary credits and experience while still in high school. Students will receive credits for 2 courses; 4 credits from Oak Bay High School/BC Ministry of Education (English 12) and 4 credits from Camosun College (ENG 151 ~ Academic Writing Strategies).
· Supported by both a Camosun College instructor and an Oak Bay teacher, students will experience the rigour of a post‐secondary English course, framed within the high school semester.
· This course provides core critical thinking, reading, research, and writing skills transferable to all academic disciplines.
· Students will practice various forms of academic writing, including summary, critical analysis, and written research. Analysis of textual rhetoric, discourse, and style, along with academic essay writing, develops self-awareness of methods of inquiry, critique, and reflection.

There is an application process. NOTE: Students who wish to register for a dual credit course will need to meet with a Careers advisor for the application package. In addition, they will need to meet with an Academic Counselor to ensure their career choice aligns with the dual credit courses transition pathway. Documentation will need to be provided in the application outlining that the dual credit course is required for the career that the student wishes to pursue.
