Note: This is a “District 61” Band Program
Prerequisite: Strings 09 or instructor’s permission.
Participation in performances and rehearsals is required; performances may occur in the evenings and sometimes take place away from the school. Classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:30 – 4:45 p.m.
- For players of violin, viola, cello or double bass, this course continues to develop individual technique, orchestral tone and ensemble playing skills
- Performance repertoire is used to study all aspects of the curriculum, including music theory and history
- Includes frequent large ensemble performances with the 100 piece District 61 “Festival Orchestra” as well as the Oak Bay Strings and smaller chamber ensembles
- Senior students will be expected to assume leadership positions
- Regular home practice is required and private lessons are encouraged. One piano accompanist may register for credit. Grade 8 Conservatory level is required.
