This course can be taken for the first time in grade 12 or as a continuation of Art 10 and or Art 11 Ceramics and Sculpture. When taken as a continuation of a previous ceramics and sculpture course students will have the option of doing independent work in any area they wish to focus. This course is taught in a custom built ceramic studio. Students will use the medium of clay to explore 3 dimensional form, using basic and advanced building techniques and design methods. In an open atmosphere of cooperative learning, technical skills are taught and creative exploration encouraged.
- Technical skills include designing and constructing forms using the potter’s wheel along with slab, coil, and pinch methods for manipulating form.
- Design techniques include: burnishing, sprigging, stamping, etching, carving to create bas relief, pattern and texture
- Colorful surface decoration is achieved by working with slips, stains, glazes, wax resist and paint
- Note: Students are supplied with all necessary materials
