Foods Studies 10 students will have the opportunity to develop or build on existing skills using a variety of tools, ingredients, and processes to create and refine food products. Through a Canadian food theme students will explore simple and complex global food systems and how they affect food choices, including environmental, ethical, economic, and health impacts. Content includes elements of meal preparation, First Peoples food protocols, the relationship between eating practices and mental and physical well-being, food trends, including nutrition, marketing, and food systems.
- Pathogenic microbes associated with food-borne illnesses. Students may purchase a book to become certified in FOODSAFE Level, a food handling, sanitation and work safety course designed for food service establishment operators and front line food service workers such as cooks, servers, bussers, dishwashers, and deli workers. Students who do not wish certification will audit the course, as it is part of the Grade 9 learning outcomes.
