This course will be examining the role that art played in changing societal and political perspectives through the years of 1600 to present day. Students will research major themes related to art history, and present their knowledge in a variety of ways including in-class presentations, written reports, oral debates/discussions and studio-based art activities. The essential icons of art (such as Picasso’s Guernica), as well as the icons of history (such as Hitler) will be explored to provide a better understanding of the relationship between art/artist, patrons and the events of world history.
